i365 and Microsoft to Develop Heterogeneous Solutions Joining Microsoft DPM 2010 with EVault Backup and Recovery
The new Microsoft/i365 collaboration will provide an integrated data protection environment for Windows file servers and applications, as well as other platforms and applications, such as UNIX, Linux, Novell Netware, VMware, IBM System i, and Oracle. This single integrated solution will enable IT teams to provide data protection and disaster recovery more efficiently and at less cost. The i365 cloud option automatically brings the data offsite, ensuring business continuity even if a facility is damaged or destroyed. The solution will be available in several configurations including an appliance based backup solution, powered by Seagate, and is scheduled for delivery early next year. More Information:

Windows 7 new operational features such as touch, voice, and gesture interaction,
coupled with the Silverlight rich web interface, make user interaction more

Windows Server 2008 R2 improves performance. A key challenge that both Microsoft and i365 are solving is to find the fastest way to get data between a remote office and the main office, or between the office and the Cloud given a world of limited data speeds. In our i365 EVault Data Protection solutions, we optimize performance by utilizing DeltaPro™ block level deduplication to back up only the changed blocks in the data, not entire files. The less data that has to be moved, the better the overall performance of the system. Windows 2008 Server R2 uses a technique called BranchCache™. With BranchCache, when a file is requested local machines communicate to determine if the file is already present locally. Or, a server in the office is designated as a caching machine, and the same economies ensue. Once the file is read remotely the cache captures it for any more requests. Improved performance. recently announced a joint collaboration program with Microsoft to develop
a heterogeneous solution that will allow IT managers to extend Microsoft
Data Protection Manager 2010 (DPM) across non-Microsoft platforms
and into the Cloud, using i365’s EVault data protection software and
cloud-connected storage solutions infrastructure. This collaboration
includes both technology and joint go-to-market components.
A growing number of companies are adopting Microsoft’s DPM as their standard
for Windows backup and recovery. Yet many of these companies also run other
operating systems and applications for part of their business and want a single
solution that extends Microsoft’s DPM to protect data from both Windows and non-Windows
environments.
